Spring is here! Daniel was a Saturday horse today. We were supposed to go on a group trailride offsite... but due to mechanical problems, that didn't happen. Leeandra suggested that I see if anyone else there wanted to trailride onsite. Heather didn't think Lori could handle all the wind (it blew down the sign, and the boy's run-in shed), so Lisa H (or should we call her Lisa3?) on Mona, and Daniel and I rode the trails at the farm. Since Lisa3 hadn't ridden the trails before, Daniel and I led the way. If anyone had ever told me, two years ago when I took my first lesson on him, that in two years we'd be leading a tail ride, I'd be crying laughing. Hell, I'd be laughing so hard I couldn't breathe... I get like that sometimes, usually over something my nephew says.
so, we rode the trails! I told Lisa3 that Mona has been on trails, and even out to Fair Hill, so I think she felt a little better. We did some trotting in the big fields. Mona did great! It was Lisa's 3rd or 4th ride on her, and I was so impressed with how Mona handled all the wind with someone who is still fairly new to her aboard!
Nik was a riot today. He was trying to lead Daniel by the lead rope - at least I was in between them, so I was able to buffer Nik's tugs (Daniel didn't care, he was just happy to eat the grass!)
The horses were all goofy with all the wind. As we walked by on the way out, Ariana was cantering all over her field, screaming and pissed off that Mona wasn't there with her. The boys were cantering all over the place when I led Daniel out. And the young Friesians are always silly - they were prancing and bucking when we walked by.
Had another first with Daniel today. I put a few treats in my pocket when I turned him back out. I opened the gate and walked him in the pasture. He turned to face me and I gave him a couple treats. He put his head down so I could take his halter off, so I gave him a couple more treats. Then he walked off to see Lyric and Eddie, and put his head down to graze. I still had a couple treats in my pocket so I stood in the field. Daniel noticed I was still standing there, and he walked back to me! So I gave him the last of the treats. Usually, once he walks off he doesn't roll back. Silly horse!
I also told Meg and Amy that we were shipping out on May 4th to Tory Hill. I wanted to move the week before, but Leeandra asked me if I would show Daniel in Legacy's first show on May 3rd. I told her that I had no interest in showing, but if she wanted to ride him in his last show, she was welcome to. So he'll be in the show on May 3rd, and shipping out on May 4th!
